(1).Electrolytic Cell: The electrical energy is used to carry out a non-s pontenions reaction.

(2).In Galvanic Cell:The chemical energy of a spontenions rection is converted into electrical work.

(a).A galvanic cell consist of two-half cells. Each half cell contains an electrolytic solution and a metallic electrode. In one of these, electrons are released,i.e,oxidation takes place.and in the other one, electrons are excepted or gain i.e,reduction takes place.

(b).The electrode at wich the oxidatio takes place is called Anode.
The electrode at which the reduction takes place is called cathode.

.The half-cells are seperated from each other by means of a salt bridge.

-Daniell cell in a example of a galvanic cell.It consist of two-half cells.one containing an electrode of Zinc dipping in 1 m solution of ZnSO4.Oxidation takes place at this electrode and the half cell is represented as-
NOTE:L- Left Right,O-Oxidation Reduction, A-Anode Cathode,N-Negative Positive

:The other half cell cantains an electrodes of cu dipping in a solution of 1 m CuSO4.Reduction takes place at this electrode and half cell is represented as-
                                             CuSO4(1m)/ Cu(s) or Cu+2(1m)/Cu(s)

A cell is represented by combining the two half cell's.The electrode at which the oxidation takes place is called negative electrode and is written on the L.H.S.The electrode at which the reduction take place +ve electrode takes place and is written on R.H.S.

A cell raction is the combination of the functions of two half cells obtained by adding the anode raction at the anode and the cathode raction at the cathode. Thus, for a daniell cell we can write-
