 -The electrical energy produced by a cell is equal to the product of EMF and quantity of electricity     passed.

-It is not posbl.to measure experimentaly the potential of a singal e.We can measure only the difference of the potential between the two electrodes of the cell.

:A standered  hydrogen electrode (sne) consist of a platinised platinum wire by hydrogen gas at 1 bar pressure and immersed in a solution containing Hcl of 1 mole.The temp.is 298 k and the half cell is represented gas.
                               The potential of the standered hydrogen electrode is assigned an arbitrary value of zero.it is used as a refrence electrode for measuring the standrerd electrode potential.

When the potential of an electrode is measured by coupling it with SHE/NHE,it is known as standered electrode potential(reduction).

:When the elements are arranged in order of their standered electrode potential,a series in known as electro chemical series obtanined.

NOTE:A species a with a higher potential has greater tendency to except electrone to undergo reduction or vice-versa.
